Biomes Project
Project Rubric
The Biologists of the Fort Worth Zoo have created a contest for students to help in designing the layout of a new exhibit.
Each group will need to create a biome based exhibit that includes these 10 biomes: Tundra, Taiga forest, Deciduous forest, grassland/savanna, prairie, desert, marine, freshwater, tropical rainforest, temperate rainforest.
Within each biome you will be responsible for including the living conditions (temperature, rainfall), plants, animals, food web (includes plants and animals selected), and energy pyramid associated with your biome.
You and your team will be submitting a layout of your exhibit and presenting your display.
How could you create an innovative display that reflects living conditions and the flow of energy within a biome at the Fort Worth Zoo?
7.5.C: Diagram the flow of energy through living systems, including food chains, food webs, and energy pyramids.
Create a food web that includes specific organisms in your biome.

7.5.C: Diagram the flow of energy through living systems, including food chains, food webs, and energy pyramids.
Create a food web that includes specific organisms in your biome.
- Construct an energy pyramid from the food web you created and calculate the amount of avaliable energy at each level. Include and label the levels within the energy pyramid. Explain how energy flows from one level to the next and the significance of the energy pyramids shape in reference to the flow of energy. Explain the transfer of chemical chemical energy to thermal energy in a energy pyramid.

7.10.A: Observe and describe how different environments, including biomes, support different varieties of organisms.- Explanation of the location of biome
- Include a map of the world with the biome labeled and highlighted.
- Explain the climate of your biome
- Discuss average annual precipitation
- Discuss average annual temperature
- Select and describe 6 animals specifc to your biome
- Explain special adaptations that these organisms (animals) have for survival.
- Include pictures of all organisms (animals) Include at least 1 interesting fact about each animal
- Select and describe 4 plants specific to your biome.
- Explain how the plants are adapted for survival in your biome compared to a different biome
- "Include pictures of all organisms (plants)
- Include at least 1 interesting fact about each plant.
- Include at least 3 pictures illustrating these interesting facts
- 7.10.B: Describe how biodiversity contributes to the sustainability of an ecosystem.
- Create a video log that explains what biodiversity is, the benefits of biodiversity, and how biodiversity contributes to the substainability of an ecosystem.
